Counterfeit seeds are a growing national emergency in India, making up nearly 25% of the

seed market and leading to widespread crop failures. Major seed scams and illegal supply

chains have recently been busted across states like Maharashtra (Nashik, Nagpur), India.

Maharashtra: Police and agriculture departments busted illegal packing operations for

fake Urad and Bt Cotton seeds in Dindori (Nashik) and Lakadganj (Nagpur). Raids seized

thousands of suspicious packets and fake company logos. In Ahilyanagar, farmers suffered

massive losses after discovering counterfeit onion seeds had led to 50% premature

flowering.
